The Shambala Wellness Retreat
SHAMBALA - A Journey of Renewal
For centuries, seekers, pilgrims, and travelers have crossed the Himalayas in search of something that cannot be found on a map.
In Buddhist tradition, Shambala is the hidden kingdom of peace, wisdom, and awakening—a place reached not only by following a path through the mountains, but through a transformation within.
Inspired by this enduring legend, our twelve-day retreat invites you on a thoughtfully curated journey through Nepal's sacred landscapes. From ancient monasteries and Himalayan villages to forest sanctuaries and timeless indigenous Newari settlements, each destination has been chosen for its unique capacity to restore, inspire, and reconnect.
Along the way, meditation, yoga, sound healing, and mindful movement are woven naturally into the journey, inviting moments of stillness between discovery. Guided by experienced practitioners and local hosts, each experience draws upon Nepal's enduring spiritual traditions while embracing contemporary approaches to holistic wellbeing. Rather than offering wellness as a treatment, Shambala embraces it as a way of traveling—through movement, stillness, culture, nature, and meaningful human connection.
This is not simply a retreat.
It is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and rediscover the quiet rhythms that have shaped Nepal for centuries.
Journey Highlights
Kathmandu - Where Ancient Faiths Meet
For more than a thousand years, Kathmandu Valley has been the spiritual and cultural heart of Nepal. Here, intricately carved temples stand beside ancient Buddhist stupas, while prayer wheels, incense, and temple bells remain part of everyday life. Explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites, hidden courtyards, and artisan workshops where centuries-old traditions continue to flourish.

Annapurna Foothills & Pokhara - Walking Towards Stillness & Reflections by the Lake
Over four unhurried days, follow ancient trails connecting mountain villages beneath the Annapurna range. Staying in welcoming local lodges, each day offers time to slow your pace, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature through quiet walks, meaningful conversations, and spectacular Himalayan panoramas.
After the trek, unwind beside the tranquil waters of Phewa Lake. Pokhara offers a gentle pause between adventure and reflection. Against the backdrop of the Annapurna massif, enjoy moments of rest, lakeside serenity, and wellness practices designed to restore both body and mind.

Namo Buddha - A Place of Compassion
One of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the Himalayas, Namo Buddha marks the place where, according to legend, the young Prince Mahasattva encountered a starving tigress unable to feed her cubs. In an act of profound compassion, he offered his own body so that they might live—a story believed to recount one of the Buddha's previous lives. The story and its setting, an ancient cave now knowns as Baghini Gufa or the Tigress Cave has been preserved to commemorate this supreme act of compassion.
Today, the adjacent monastery stands as sanctuary of peace, where meditation, prayer, and the quiet rhythm of monastic life invite reflection and renewal.

Panauti - Where Time Slows
Hidden among fertile hills east of Kathmandu lies Panauti, one of Nepal's oldest and best-preserved Newari towns. Built around the sacred confluence of three rivers—two visible and one believed to flow beneath the earth—its beautifully carved temples, ancient courtyards, and centuries-old traditions offer an intimate glimpse into Nepal's living heritage.
Here, yoga and meditation unfold within an atmosphere shaped by history, spirituality, and quiet contemplation.
Chitwan National Park: Into the Living Forest
From the mountains, the journey descends into the subtropical forests of Chitwan, where nature sets the rhythm of each day. Home to one-horned rhinoceroses, elephants, gharial crocodiles, and the elusive Bengal tiger, the national park offers a profound contrast to the Himalayas.
At your wilderness sanctuary, wellness continues through guided yoga, meditation, and restorative sound healing, complemented by gentle safaris, canoe excursions, and encounters with the rich traditions of the indigenous Tharu community, whose relationship with this landscape spans generations.
