Nepal is home to numerous national parks and conservation areas, with Chitwan National Park being the most prominent. This park has achieved remarkable success in conserving species like tigers, rhinos, and gharials. It is unique for housing both the world’s largest terrestrial mammal, the wild elephant, and the world’s smallest terrestrial mammal, the pygmy shrew.

Chitwan National Park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, boasting 544 recorded species of birds, including 22 globally threatened species such as the critically endangered Bengal Florican, Slender-billed Vulture, White-rumped Vulture, and Red-headed Vulture. The park is home to 68 species of mammals, 56 species of herpetofauna, and 126 species of fish.

For those seeking adventure, a 2-night, 3-day safari offers an ideal Asian-style jungle safari experience. This package includes accommodation, meals, nature walks, open jeep safaris, and a serene drift down the river in a dugout canoe searching for aquatic wildlife, bird watching, and visits to an elephant breeding center. The visit to local indigenous Tharu community settlements provides culturally immersive experiences - all guided by highly experienced naturalists.

Similar packages are available in Bardia National Park, Suklaphanta National Park, and Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, the latter being especially popular for bird-watching trips.

Itinerary

Day 1

Fly to Bharatpur. Transfer to Chitwan National Park. Meals: Lunch & Dinner.

In the morning, we drive to the airport for a short flight to Bharatpur. Upon arrival, we transfer you to Chitwan National Park. Check-in at jungle lodge/resort. The following activities will be divided to accommodate the schedule of activities in the national park.

Canoe Trip: Enjoy a canoe trip on either the Rapti River or the Budhi Rapti River, which border the National Park. You can see two types of crocodiles, the Gharial and Mugger, basking on the river bank.

Bird Watching: For bird watchers, with over 450 species of exotic birds of domestic as well as migratory birds. Many are threatened, e.g., the Great Pied Hornbill, Bengal Florican, Peregrine falcon, lesser adjutant storks, etc.

Jeep Safari: Jeep safari is one of the best opportunities to see the wildlife in Chitwan National Park, which provides you with the opportunity to take snaps of wildlife and the view around you. While travelling, we will be able to see the one-horned rhino, Bengal tiger, spotted deer, and many more.

Nature Walk: Our experienced naturalists will accompany you to the more specialized habitats. This is the ideal opportunity to explore and experience, up close, the beauty of the flora and fauna. The authority of the naturalist must be closely observed to obviate any risks from wildlife attacks.

Elephant Breeding Centre: This is the first Elephant breeding centre in Asia. You can see baby elephants socializing with their parents and other babies. This centre is government-owned, and its purpose is to raise the young elephants and to train them to convey tourists around the region.

Village Tour: An excursion in Tharu village will grant you an exhilarating experience. Tharus are the indigenous inhabitants of the Terai. They were "hunters and gatherers" who lived in proximity to the low-lying jungles of Nepal. We offer guided cultural tours to meet the people and experience their traditional self-sufficient way of life.

Cultural Program: In the evening, you will get an opportunity to be a part of Tharu folk dance. The drummers and symbolic stick dancers perform traditional movements and invite guests to join them in this rhythmic display. Such cultural shows performed by Tharus will be an unforgettable experience. The Tharus in traditional colorful costumes, unique in their disparity with the common mode of dress all over Nepal, are sure to captivate you.

Elephant Bathing: Your guide will take you to the specific place where you can observe elephant bathing.

Day 2

Jungle Safari & Wildlife Activities. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Full day of jungle activities as listed above. Embark on a full day of activities: jeep or elephant-back safari, canoe ride on the Rapti River, guided nature walk, and bird watching. End the day with a magical riverside sunset. Overnight in Chitwan.
