The Gokyo Lakes, situated at 4,700-5,000 meters, are among the world’s highest freshwater systems and hold spiritual significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. After acclimatizing or resting in Namche Bazaar, head north along a well-marked trail. While the ascent can be steep and challenging, it requires no specialized gear and rewards trekkers with breathtaking views.
Spend time by the crystal clear, turquoise glacial lakes before summiting the Gokyo Ri Mountain, where you’ll be treated to stunning panoramas of Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), and Cho Oyu (8,201m). For the return, retrace your steps or take an alternate route east of the Dudh Koshi River through Portse village, leading back to Namche.
