Mardi Himal Trek (Annapurna Region)

Mardi Himal Trek (Annapurna Region)

Overview

The Mardi Himal Trek is a newly opened route in the Annapurna region, located east of the Modi Khola River, across the valley from Hiunchuli. We ascend through traditional villages and pristine oak and rhododendron forests to an alpine site that has an up-close view of Mt. Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, and Mount Annapurna. The great rice fields and the blue glaciers of the Annapurana Sanctuary lie below the trail. Descent is via a different route, through a lush valley and picturesque villages along the bank of the River Mardi.

The trail climbs from fast flowing streams in forests of dense bamboo, rhododendron, and oak to ridge crests where small and hospitable farming communities work their terraced lands. These village people have not felt the impact of mass tourism and thus offer an opportunity to experience their warmth, hospitality and customs that have remained largely unchanged for generations.

The scenery expands as the trail rises, offering stupendous views of Himalayan giants from Dhaulagiri (8167m) to the Annapurna group: I (8091m), II (7937m), III (7555m), IV (7525m), South (7219m) and Hiunchuli (6441m). Over 60 peaks in this region are higher than 6000m. Few other locations can offer such a close encounter.
