Dudh Kunda Trek (Everest Region)

Dudh Kunda Trek (Everest Region)

Overview

Dudhu Kunda Trek is a new and unique trek that offers an insider’s look at the high mountains and remote Solu region.  The Solu region is inhabited by the friendly Sherpa people but sees far less tourist traffic than the busy Khumbu region. Hence, this trek is a chance to experience the authentic Sherpa culture, villages, and way of life. From Kathmandu, we fly to Phaplu and trek up to Dhud Kunda lake, a vantage point that offers spectacular mountain views of Mt. Numbur and Mt Dhud Kunda.  En route we visit several Sherpa, Magar, and Tamang farming villages such as Kerung, Takshindu, Ang Pang, and  Junbensi. There are several famous monasteries like Chiwong, Thupten Choling and Takshindu along the way.

Dudh Kunda Lake (milky lake) is situated at the foot of Number Himal, locally known as Shorong Yul Lha, meaning “Protector of Solu region”. Dudh Kunda is believed to be a holy lake, and the locals believe that taking a dip in the holy waters will have the wishes granted. It is also a good vantage point to enjoy panoramic scenes of the Everest Himalayan range and the rhododendron and pine forests. You may even see wild animals and birds such as mountain thars, bears, leopards, jackals, and pheasants.
